snow day!

Jake saw his first snow today! We were downtown for his flu shot and got stuck in the white stuff. Luckily we had the camera phone to keep us amused until the bus came. Please don't mind the glare off the Vaseline on Jake's face.

or off the greasy grime on mine

And of course we couldn't pass the pizza shop on the corner without being flagged in for some free mozzarella The whole neighborhood knows that Jake is a cheese baby.

J-Rock, spinnin' phat beat faves like Row Row Row Your Boat, Old McDonald, and Aluette all nizz long til the break of dawn

This is exactly what Dave looks like when he is picking songs on a jukebox. Except Dave is usually more cooperative about wearing clothes.

"Thanks a lot for making me wear pants. Boo to pants."

Over it.

parade goers

Sorry for the lack of Baby Steps posting and to those of you who were confused about what the heck is going on with all the silk and craziness around here. The Mummer's Parade is held on New Year's Day each year, but it was postponed due to weather this year. Lucky for us, it was rescheduled on a balmy 75 degree day!
My mom and I took jake to the corner of broad and snyder to watch a bit of the parade. jake loved it, and unfortunately we didn't get any shots of dave and the boys when the froggy wench brigade passed by. oops. jake loved the fancies, but he got hungry so we went home for lunch. there was no way to get a good spot to watch the string bands, but we had fun walking jake through the crowd and listening to the music. for a site with pictures of the good stuff, click here

dave was in the parade when he was just a couple months shy of turning two, so maybe jake can go out next year. local lore states that dave's costume hangs in the mummer's museum since he was the youngest mummer ever to walk to length of the parade with a backpiece (one of those big turkey tail looking things). i've never been there but i'll take his word for it. here are a few shots of some of the kiddie mummers:

we took jake to second street after the parade, and he loved it so much that we let him walk down with the brigade. there are thousands of people there, all partying in the streets. as long as jake was on our shoulders, he was singing and dancing along with the best of them. i only had my camera phone, but here are the pictures from last night:
